Subject: [Reclaimmayday] *Grins and waves* Guess what time it is.....

Watcha peeps,

May Day is on a Wednesday this year. BPCAC meeting last night would be
supportive (presence / assistance / bit of cash towards it) of actually
having May Day on May Day - woop!

Something starting late afternoon into early evening, central location
in city - Centenary Square? Somewhere more covered in case it pisses
down with rain again?

Anybody got any thoughts or ideas?

If we don't do anything central there is a very high chance that
somebody else will take this on and do something more fun in centenary
square like have a petition to sign or a stall collecting email addresses...

Jules x

Great news!
There is also a lot of enthusiasm to repeat the success of last years Ante-Art. This year with a new theme. Possibly around regeneration or austerity.

These events don't necessarily have to be together but could support each other through promotion etc.
The idea with Ante-art 2.0 would be to have an event in Shipley (@ Kirkgate centre) and @ the 1in12 Club. Id imagine this would more likely be suited to a wekeend (3 & 4th May).

I like the idea of something also happening in Centenary Square. Book it now as it might get booked by someone else! Maybe an evening of speakers, info-stall and refreshments?

Hi

I was thinking about the problems with the last few Maydays (as well as
what was great about them) and also what worked in days gone by.

One of the great things that happened years ago was a multi-faceted
approach to Mayday with different events in different locations, organised
by different groups, towards the common goal of commemorating and
celebrating Mayday.

What this meant in practice was (I think) less meetings and more people
getting on with (comparatively) small things which were within their
capabilites, directing themselves according to their interests and with
less of the "what I think Mayday should do/spend money on is..." stuff.

As far as it goes with Kirkgate & 1in12, I think perhaps the 1in12 Library
could do something on Thu 2nd, and possibly some promoter could be leaned
on to put bands on one weekend or another (there certainly seems to be no
lack of bands wanting to play Mayday) which might result in a jolly pair of
weekends between Shipley and Bradford, with a march in the middle (people
always want to march).

Looking at last year's budget, most of it can be ditched if the events
(and responsibilities) can be handed back to the venues, though we might
need the Event Insurance for a gathering in Centenary Square (though I
can't quite believe the Council don't have all the required paperwork, if
they could be persuaded to value the contribution of their citizens a bit
more, rather than seeing them as an irritant).

Cheers

Protag

The gig tent was popular last year, possibly as much to do with the weather as owt else, maybe undercover is the way to go? - rather than having open air stalls have an even tent, a beer tent, a food tent and a general stalls tent? (obviously tents literally grow on trees)
