month at i-Pod City, Longhua.

3	URGENT APPEAL FROM LEBANESE UNIONS

The Education International, representing teachers' unions around the
world, has issued an urgent action appeal in support of requests for
humanitarian assistance from two Lebanese teachers' unions. LabourStart
is assisting by providing a secure online way to donate in your own
currency using your credit or debit card. Please give generously at:
http://www.labourstart.org/docs/en/000351.html

4	POLICE RAID SINALTRAINAL OFFICE, COLOMBIA

On Aug 3 at about 12:15 pm, uniformed men identifying themselves as police
illegally raided the offices of Colombian trade union SINALTRAINAL, a
frequent target of anti-union violence. SINALTRIANAL are prominent for
their radical organisation of Coca Cola workers. Their representatives
have spoken at a number of No Sweat events.
Colombia is the deadliest country for trade unionists on the planet. Tell
the authorities that they should be protecting trade unionists and not
violating their basic rights! Take action on this alert via the web at:
http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/unionraid/i7n36e217wk577?

5	TAKE ACTION TO SUPPORT HOMEWORKERS' RIGHTS
Currently thousands of homeworkers miss out on key rights such as
maternity leave or protection against unfair dismissal or redundancy
because their employment status is unclear. The National Group on
Homeworking want a change in the law to grant homeworkers full employment
rights and recognition as employees just like on-site workers. You can
help by sending a campaign email to the Minister for Employment Relations
at:
  www.ngh.org.uk
More info is available at:
http://www.ngh.org.uk/what-we-do/campaigns/equal-rights-=-employment-rights
NGH also have loads of campaign postcards that you can send or use on your
campaign stalls / at upcoming events. Get in touch and get your hands on
some.

6	INDONESIAN SECURITY WORKERS WIN

After a tense few days, during which the police started demolishing their
camp at the Securicor Indonesia office and
arresting protesters, Indonesian Securicor workers won their 15 moth
strike. The company had sacked well over 200 workers, and the strikers and
sacked workers were subjected to violence, intimidation and the full force
of the law.
Thanks to remarkable persistence and solidarity from all over the world
the dismissed workers will receive twice their severance pay and strike
leaders will have all charges against them dropped.
For a photo of the Securicor Indonesia office, covered in banners and
posters, see:

7	COCA COLA BANNED IN INDIA

The state government of Kerala in south India has banned the production
and sale of Coca-Cola and Pepsi in the state. The companies will be asked
to close their operations
entirely. Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan stated today that the ban was
being
imposed because of the health hazards posed by Coca-Cola and Pepsi. For
more information, visit:

8	"UNIONS" ORGANISED IN CHINES WALMART STORES

That's right, the most anti-union firm in the world has been forced to
allow "unions" by the most anti-union country in the world. What's going
on?
According to China Labour Bulletin, Wal-Mart spokesman, Jonathan Dong
explained, "The union in China is fundamentally different from unions in
the West&. The [ACFTU] has made it clear that its goal is to work with
employers, not promote confrontation. Despite this they are putting up
some sort of opposition to Walmart and this "unionisation" offers some
encouragement to genuine trade unionists elsewhere in China and in the
Walmart empire.More at:
