Share Tompkins Organizers Meeting
Thursday April 22, 2010
Wishing Well Magazine Headquarters aka Danielle Klock and Greg Kops'
House
In Attendance: Danielle Klock, Greg Kops, McKenzie Jones-Rounds, Frank
Muller, Sebastian Vitale, Phoebe Wyllyamz, Travis Knapp, Shira Golding

Decisions Made (using informal consensus):
1. We will aim for one event per month for the next year!
2. By the time of an event, we will aim to lock down the date for the
next month's event.
3. We will explore current trading/time bank websites and recommend
one or more for use by the Share Tompkins (ST) community.
4. We will invite Community Dispute Resolution Center (CDRC) to table
and offer mediation to people who need it while making barter
arrangements.
5. Shira will create a how-to guide for events.
6. At events, we will have a sign-up board for hosting future events.

Minutes:
- Shira presents consensus and how it works.
- Frank explains ST to newcomers.
- Shira summarizes accomplishments of first year of ST, started May
2009 including website.
- Franks suggests creating a how-to guide so others can organize swaps
and Really Really Free Markets (RRFM) in other places around the
region and beyond.
- Sebastian suggests we branch out to other parts of Tompkins County
and we can send an organizer as an advisor to facilitate.
- Greg suggests the time bank idea and mentions Steve Austin, someone
who is exploring this concept locally.
- Shira explains that there are already a number of websites that
facilitate trading/bartering and the time bank concept and we need to
assess them and recommend one or more to the ST community.
- Sebastian suggests that ST organizers provide more guidance for new
swappers.
- Frank recommends communicating really clearly what you are offering
and what you expect when making a swap.
- Danielle suggests inviting the Community Dispute Resolution Center
to help mediate swaps.
- Sebastian would like to set a date for the next organizers meeting.
- Danielle starts to facilitate locking down the dates/locations for
the next 4 ST events.
- McKenzie will organize May 15th swap in Trumansburg at Evie and
Jay's place.
- Phoebe volunteers to host 1 of the next 3 swaps at her home in
Newfield.
- Danielle has been in touch with the Alternatives Credit Union about
hosting a RRFM in their parking lot.
- Sebastian would like to do a RRFM in Dewitt park and has visited
City Hall and knows about the permitting process.
- Greg suggests doing a RRFM in May to tie in w/ the end of the
college school year.
- Sebastian points out that we might not be able to handle the amount
of stuff left behind by students.
- Shira suggests we do a ST dumpster dive on campus.
- We set the dates and locations for the next 3 events: May 15th Swap
Meet in Trumansburg at Evie and Jay's place w/ McKenzie as co-
organizer, June 26th or 27th RRFM in Alternatives Credit Union parking
lot co-organized by Danielle and Greg and Ari will make poster, July
17th Swap Meet in Newfield at Phoebe and Mateo's place w/ Danielle as
co-organizer.
- Danielle suggests using Twitter to promote ST events.
- Shira suggests having an organizers meeting to focus on web
strategies including twitter, facebook, the ST website, etc.
- Sebastian and Frank volunteer to co-organize RRFM on August 21 or
28, ideally at Dewitt Park.
- Shira suggests choosing an official rain date for the RRFM at Dewitt
Park.
- Sebastian has 3 outdoor booth tents that he could bring.
- Danielle suggests that we approach the Unitarian Church as a rain
location for the August RRFM.
- We all like going around in the circle at the beginning of Swap Meets.
- Danielle recommends social media tools.
- Shira suggests having sign-up board at events where people can
volunteer to host future events.
- Sebastian suggests inviting more nonprofits and CSAs to table at
events. Controversial groups should be okayed by other organizers.
- The next organizers meeting will be on June 17th at Danielle and
Greg's place.
