Hello.
I'm a recent transplant to Ithaca with all kinds of time and all kinds
of abilities... Since 1 December when I moved here, I've been thinking
how nice it would be if there were some kind of central clearinghouse
that linked people up according to their needs and abilities -- kind of
like a Swaptree.org but in services. Kinda like Ithaca Hours, which I
joined six months before I moved here, because I like the concept so
much. Kinda like Share Tompkins -- which I just found out about a few
minutes ago, kinda like an answer to a prayer or a fervent hope.
Here is a beginning list of the sorts of things I could trade --
Reading fiction aloud -- I've had extensive experience reading to
children and adults, and I'm passionate about it. Alas my nest is empty.
Editing/proofreading/copy-editing
Translating into English -- from Russian, Ukrainian, French

Babysitting
Data entry
This one is probably a stretch -- I mean I can do it, but I enjoy it so
much I probably shouldn't ask anything in return...
Singing folk songs and children's songs to self-accompaniment on guitar...
Things I could use in return --
body work (i.e., massage)
petsitting (when I go out of town)
lessons in a variety of things (music theory, organic gardening,
houseplants, herblore -- the list is practically endless)
Maybe I'll meet some of you at the swap meet this weekend. This move
was combined with radical downsizing, and I've been madly freecycling.
Maybe the swap meet will help me take care of some of my material needs
while divesting me of things I have that I no longer need... Y' think?
Cheers,
Liza
