Free Classes All Summer Long!
Ithaca Freeskool announces summer calendar of classes offered by and
for community members of all ages
ITHACA, NY – June 2, 2011 – Ithaca Freeskool is excited to announce
their summer session of classes for all ages, offered in homes and
public spaces throughout the community from June 1 to September 1,
2011. Over thirty-five diverse workshops are being taught free of
charge including "Editing Wikipedia for Activists, Academics, and
Everybody Else," "Laughter Yoga," "Mushroom Inoculation Work n’
Learn" and many more.
Calendars with complete class descriptions are being distributed
throughout Ithaca and are available online at http://ithacafreeskool.wordpress.com/class-descriptions
. See below for complete list.
Ithaca Freeskool has been facilitating free local community education
since 2007 and organizer Lily Gershon is excited about the summer
session. "I'm always giddy about the new calendar, and I love that we
get a little of everything - gardening and herbal classes, physical
things like dance and martial arts, reading groups, photo and film
classes, sustainability and environmental issues, and local issues -
we cover a lot of ground. I'm pretty proud of us and we're still
growing."
The summer calendar was officially released at the group's "Spring
Social" on May 13th at Buffalo Street Books (also the host of numerous
upcoming classes). The event was an opportunity to celebrate the
completion of the winter-spring session, distribute new calendars and
enjoy live music and snacks.
Organizer McKenzie Jones-Rounds shares, "I find that Freeskool
gatherings are not just fun and engaging, but affirming of our
greatest efforts to connect even just a portion of the community with
itself and amazing free classes. It's really great to play music, eat
snacks and commune with old and new friends, all while unveiling this
little paper calendar that is rich and complete beyond its form. Our
spring social was a really successful event, not just because we all
gathered together for it, but because we were setting the stage for
the next several months of Freeskool gatherings."
Ithaca Freeskool is a grassroots, all-volunteer community-building
initiative that creates spaces where people teach and attend classes
with one another without cost. Primarily, but not exclusively geared
towards adults, anyone can teach and anyone can attend.

When: Tuesdays, 6-9pm, 6/7-7/12
Long-form improvisation may just be unlike anything you’ve ever
experienced. Forget Who’s Line Is It Anyway. Improv is not about show
(though it can be), it’s not about being funny (though it can be),
it’s about letting yourself be in the here and now and discovering
where your imagination goes when you let yourself free and connect
with other people, helping each other create together in a safe and
nonjudgmental space. In this class we’ll engage in fun exercises that
help you learn some basic principles of improv and experience some of
the joy of truly playing and letting yourself loose with others.
We’ll learn the “yes, and” principle, offering and accepting, how
to start and find the “game” of a scene, and, most importantly,
that anything and everything is ok. Seriously. Or not. Leave your
inhibitions at home. Please RSVP.

Ever wanted to modify, fix, or create a Wikipedia article? Wikipedia
is a great way to modify and create content on one “the free

of Wikipedia article creation, editing, and policy so that you can

challenging corporate propaganda on articles related to fracking,
adding critical views to entries on political topics, fixing factual

skills. Because of the drop-in nature of these groups, the amount of
time dedicated to coping skills varies. Depressed moms, anxious moms,

moms, I’m-supposed-to-be-happy-so-why-am-I-miserable moms, and those

differing viewpoints in order to gain a deeper understanding of how
people define their relationship with nature and technology. Currently

Ecology”; Murray Bookchin – “The Concept of Social
Ecology” (in The Ecology of Freedom); John Zerzan – “Future
Primitive” (in Limited Wants, Unlimited Means); Paul Hawking, Amory
Lovings, L. Hunter Lovins – The Next Industrial Revolution (in
