> AFTER-SCHOOL TEEN APPRENTICESHIPS
> SewGreen offers free sewing and fashion design apprenticeships to
> eligible teens. The apprenticeships are available on Tuesday,
> Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons during the school year. Teens
> must apply and be accepted by the program leaders, who look for
> commitment and a strong interest in creativity and learning. Any
> teen with a passion for fashion is welcome to apply, and we
> especially welcome referrals from agencies that work with lower-
> income or at-risk youth. Teens can start apprenticeships any time
> during the semester. Applications are available at the SewGreen
> store. For more information, contact Autumn Newell, youthcoord at sew-green.org
> or visit the SewGreen website, www.sew-green.org.

> VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
> SewGreen has openings for volunteers at several levels of expertise
> and commitment. Our reuse store has openings for individuals who can
> make a consistent commitment to retail store responsibilities. One
> 3- or 4-hour shift a week is requested. We are also looking for
> experienced sewers who can assist once a week at classes for
> children or adults.
>
> For volunteers who prefer a more flexible commitment, there are
> various times during the week when we can use help with chores and
> responsibilities of all sorts. For example, we need someone good
> with plants to keep our outdoor planters looking handsome. Anyone
> who likes fixing old sewing machines is always welcome to train and
> work with us. We need people to iron, trim, and fold fabric. We need
> skilled clerical help. We need help with moving heavy stuff,
> cleaning, and interior painting.
>
> You may want to consider volunteering with a friend. Being a
> volunteer at SewGreen is rewarding and fun. Contact Wendy, coord at sew-
> green, for a time to talk. Thanks!

> NEW MATERIAL DONATION GUIDELINES
> Due to the unprecedented volume of material donations to the
> SewGreen store, we have had to revise our guidelines to reduce our
> waste and recycling stream. Donations of clean and folded fabric of
> any kind or size are our mainstay. We also love to receive yarn,
> notions, sewing and knitting tools, books, unused polyfill and
> batting, sewing machines in working order, and other sewing goodies.
> Please don’t bring us anything that is mildewed, worn-out, stained,
> smelly, has pet hair, or has pins in it. We can’t accept fur, down,
> foam rubber, or old stuffing from furniture or pillows. We don’t
> take clothing, whole or cut-up, unless it’s something amazing like a
> vintage gown. No table or bed linens, curtains, slipcovers etc. We
> request that you bring donations in clear plastic bags or bins.
> Copies of the guidelines are available at the store and on the
> website, www.sew-green.org. The SewGreen store hours are 10 am to 5
> pm, Monday through Saturday.
