On Saturday, March 10th, from 10 am - 4 pm, the Level Green Institute and
area organizations working with special needs adults are meeting at
Tompkins Community Action to explore possibilities for collaborating to
design a summer arts and nature say camp for special needs adults.
Space is limited but we'd be glad to welcome anyone keenly interested in
being part of this start-up conversation. The morning is for folks working
with this population; the afternoon, from 1-4 pm, will offer fun
nature-oriented arts activities for prospective day camp participants, care
givers and family members.
For the afternoon we are in need of the following:
- acorn caps, walnut shells
- bright-colored yarns (for spider-web weaving and finger-weaving)
- magazines with nature pictures (for collage)
- air-drying clay
- paints that work with air-drying clay
- scissors, glue, tape
- LOAN of simple digital cameras (participants will take photos of each
other, and receive a copy to take home)
- LOAN of percussion instruments such as tambourines, shakers, drums -
we'll be making rain sticks
If March 10 participants feel it worth continuing to explore further, we'll
be having an open meeting to look at possibilities for a summer 2012
one-week trial run. We'll welcome ideas and participation then.
