Cyber Attack Spikes Report of Collusion Between Scientists, Industry,
and Government

"Science as Social Control: Political Paralysis and the Genetics Agenda"
New ISN Article: http://www.independentsciencenews.org/science-media/science-and-social-
  control-political-paralysis-and-the-genetics-agenda/

Quick Summary of the importance of the article to those concerned with
public health, food, agriculture, social justice, and the environment:
A key determinant of the success of the food and environment movements
is the extent to which people understand their personal health to be
linked to the safety of their food and the quality of their environment.

If people believe that their fate is determined by their genes then
they will reason that they can potentially ignore a deteriorating
environment or low quality food. This connection has been exploited by
industries and governments who have consistently and deliberately
promoted genetic explanations of health, often in the absence of any
evidence. As this article explains, in less than thirty years the
population has come to largely believe that genes (and not food, or
toxins) are fate.

It is vitally important, therefore, for the future popular support of
the food and other social movements (and to the possibility of
effective ag, social and environmental policy) that these groups
understand properly that genetics is largely a PR strategy and not
science. The food and other social movements must explain to their
members, politicians, and society at large, that attempts to
scientifically locate illness in genetic predispositions have
foundered. Otherwise, these movements are likely to remain marginal
and linked mainly by their failure to develop.

"Genetic determinist thinking about lung cancer probably saved the
tobacco industry. It may well be the single biggest factor working in
favour of industrial agriculture, hazardous consumer products and
workplace toxins and against meaningful public health, prevention, and
environmental policies. Industry knows this and that is why we think
Independent Science News was attacked." Jonathan Latham, PhD,
