> One such person who graced our community was, Jerome "Brud" Holland. Jerome Holland was a student, a scholar, a leader and the first African-American All American football player at Cornell University, Class of 1939. He spent a great deal of his time mentoring young men at the Southside Community Center. He went on to become President of Delaware State College and a United States Ambassador, to name a few of his accomplishments. As part of the City of Ithaca Martin Luther King, Jr. Freedom Walkway, we wish to highlight this important part of our history.
