Knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, naalbinders, lace makers,
quilters, or other fiber arts enthusiasts:
Roc Day, also known as St. Distaff’s Day, is the date on which spinners in
medieval Europe traditionally commemorated their return to their labors
after the Christmas holiday. The Black Sheep Handspinners’ Guild of Ithaca
hosts an annual fiber fair to celebrate this occasion.
This year’s celebration of Roc Day happens at Saturday, January 12, 2013
from 10am-4pm and is located at All Saints Church, 347 Ridge Rd. (Rt. 34B)
Lansing NY.
This year’s festivities will feature workshops on beginning spinning,
carding and flicking, intro to lace knitting, designing your own triangular
shawl, and intro to Fair Isle knitting. There is a raffle which always has
some amazing contents. There will be spinning demos, a spin-in, a
dish-to-pass lunch, vendors of fiber, yarn, and tools. Entry is free.
Check out the guild’s Roc Day information page at
