Hello all,

Below is information about Becca Harber's Compassionate Communication courses (aka NVC non-violent communication). She also offers one on one with couples seeking to improve their communication skills with each other. Joe and I did that this winter and recommend it!

> Collaborative Communication for Activists:

> Be more effective, connect across differences, work more cooperatively, reduce stress and conflicts, and increase creativity and satisfaction
> 6 two hour classes, 7 to 9 pm, on a weekday*
> starting April or May in Ithaca

> People working for justice of all kinds and all peoples, protection of Nature and human communities and cultures (hydrofracking, etc.), peace, equality,Constitutional and civil rights, health & affordable healthcare for all, etc. are welcome.

> These classes will offer very useful ways of thinking and practical skills to free us up from ways we speak and act that get in the way of getting along better with colleagues in our activism and people we work with or wish to connect with and organize.

> Whether speaking, acting or writing, Collaborative Communication is empowering and fosters understanding, trust and more effective decision-making even when we disagree.
> This series also welcomes those whose activism is more solitary: writing letters, making phone calls, etc. about what is important to you.

> Nonviolent Communication is used internationally for peace-making, mediation, activism , learning, cultivating caring relationships, and emotional healing.
> Becca Harber's been teaching Nonviolent Communication (NVC) since 2004 and has over 450 hours of training. She's taught at Greenstar Co-op, Finger Lakes Permaculture Institute, Ithaca Free Clinic and other places. She co-taught a series for anti-hydro-fracking activists several years ago.
>
> Suggested sliding scale of $60 to $120 for 6 two hour classes (can go down to zero).Other financial arrangements are available if needed so classes are affordable to all.
> *Classes will be on one weekday (M, T, W or Th) depending on participants’ availability.

> Call Becca: 607-564-7051.(please wait for messaging)
> It only takes one person to change possible outcomes in interactions with others.
>
> Resolve Conflicts, Reduce Stress & Foster Cooperation & Harmony
> with Collaborative Communication
> 7 two hour classes starting in April, 7 to 9 pm, probably Wednesdays
> How can we listen and express ourselves effectively when we’re not getting along with others? Or when we or others are upset or angry? How can we work things out without one “losing” and one “winning”? This approach is empowering for any kind of relationship and with all ages.

> Classes include much practice and will introduce how to:
> - Stay calm when someone’s upset and understand them so you can better connect and deal with the situation with mutual satisfaction.
> - Deal with your own unhappy reactions so you’ll communicate more effectively.
> - Prevent and resolve conflicts and misunderstandings by responses that nurture connection instead.
> - Understand and express yourself differently so that listeners are more open to collaborating and cooperating with you.
> - Tune in to others (as well as yourself) to understand the needs that drivebehaviors and unhappy feelings.
> - Get freer of patterns that get in the way of people caring about you so you both get more of your needs met.
> - Reconnect more with others when you regret something you said or did.
