> Food Scrap Recycling Drop Spot Opens in Dryden
>
> (Ithaca, NY) The Tompkins County Solid Waste Division – in partnership with the Town and Village of Dryden – is pleased to announce the opening of a food scrap recycling drop spot at the Dryden Town Highway Department.
>
> The new drop spot will be open every Saturday beginning August 2, 2014 from 9:00am to Noon. The free service will allow residents to expand their recycling options and reduce their trash disposal costs.
>
> The material collected each week will be taken to Cayuga Compost in Trumansburg for processing, with the resulting compost marketed to landscapers, homeowners, and organizations as a soil amendment.
>
> In 2013, the Solid Waste Division began offering free kitchen caddies, transportation containers and compostable bags to encourage residents to participate in food scraps recycling. The program is seen as playing a significant role in meeting the County’s goal of 75% waste diversion by 2016.
>
> Drop spots are also located at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center in Ithaca and at Cayuga Compost on Agard Road.
>
> “The opening of the Dryden drop spot – as well as two more this fall – will make it as convenient as possible for residents, no matter where they live in the County, to recycle their food scraps for free,” said Solid Waste Division Manager Barbara Eckstrom. “We also make it easy by providing users with everything they need.”
>
> Each drop spot will be staffed to answer questions and provide written materials. Residents will also find a supply of replacement compostable bags, as well as caddies and transportation containers for users new to the program.
>
> The Dryden Town Highway Department is located at 61 E. Main Street (Route 392). Follow the signs to the drop spot location.
