Hello Tompkins Sharers,

Just want to make sure you know about this crowdfunding campaign being run by White Hawk Ecovillage in Danby for the month of July. White Hawk is a small community with big dreams of creating interdependence, sustainability, and community sufficiency while remaining affordable.

Currently with six houses built, the plan is for 30 households to share 120 acres of mixed agricultural and wooded land. Various permaculture and organic agriculture projects run by subsets of the community are already beginning to produce some of what is needed right there. The community has hosted skill-shares in the past (such as the ramps class this past May) and plans to do more of them so keep an eye out.

White Hawk was recently awarded a $90,000 county grant to provide affordable housing funds to three new income-qualified households, with the possibility of receiving more grant money in the future. In order to access these funds, though, it is required that the community install a very expensive new bridge over a stream that crosses the access road to accommodate floodwater. To augment the funds available from within the community for this unforeseen but critical infrastructure upgrade, a crowdfunding campaign has been launched.
