> Food Scrap Recycling Drop Spot Opens at CCE
>
> The Tompkins County Solid Waste Division – in partnership with Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County – is pleased to announce the opening of a food scrap recycling drop spot at 615 Willow Avenue in Ithaca.
>
> The new drop spot outside the CCE Education Center will be open every Sunday beginning September 28th from 10:00am to 2:00pm. The free service will allow residents to expand their recycling options and reduce their trash disposal costs.
>
> The material collected each week will be taken to Cayuga Compost in Trumansburg for processing, with the resulting compost marketed to farmers, landscapers and homeowners as a soil amendment.
>
> The Solid Waste Division offers free kitchen caddies, transportation containers and compostable bags to encourage residents to participate in food scraps recycling. The program is seen as playing a significant role in meeting the County’s goal of 75% waste diversion by 2016.
>
> Food Scrap Recycling Drop Spots are also located at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center in Ithaca, at Cayuga Compost on Agard Road and at the Dryden Town Highway Department (Saturdays only).
>
> Staff will be on hand each week at the drop spot to answer questions and provide written material about the benefits of food scrap recycling. Residents will also find a supply of replacement compostable bags, as well as caddies and transportation containers for users new to the program.
