Our program is extremely unique and caters<br>to students of all ages and backgrounds. <br><br>Each student must register for each class they want to take. This can be done<br>by downloading a form at <a href="http://www.sscc-ithaca.org">www.sscc-ithaca.org</a> or stopping into Southside. <br>Registration is ongoing so if you can’t make it in this week you’re always<br>welcome the next (or the next…). Find out what it’s like to be in a real studio session with field trips<br>to local studios and guest instruction from expert engineers.<br><br>Lyric Writing Forum<br>High School Only<br>Tuesday 6-7:30pm<br> The lyric forum is a discussion-based environment with two components:<br>exploration of existing lyrics and sharing of original material. Students will<br>offer each other constructive criticism and learn to think critically about<br>what<br>they’re hearing on the radio. This class may contain mature content.<br><br>Group Voice<br>Monday 6-7pm<br> You’ll be amazed by what you can accomplish with just a little instruction!<br>While keeping the essence of your own voice, you can extend your range, sustain<br>notes longer, learn to harmonize and best of all, get over the fear of singing<br>in front of others.<br><br>Beat Making <br>Tuesdays 4:30-6<br> The Beat Making class is for any student interested in learning how to put<br>sounds together in order to create a song. This class will cover quantizing,<br>editing, keyboard usage, sampling and pre-installed patterns. Above all,<br>students will be encouraged to be creative and have fun.<br><br>Open Community Recording<br>Thursday and Friday 4-8pm<br> All community members may take advantage of eight free recording hours in the<br>studio. Call ahead to schedule your session.<br><br><br>“305 Live” Radio Show meetings Mondays & Wed. 5pm-6pm, live broadcast Fridays<br>5pm-6pm<br>Season 4 of the most entertaining show on the ‘net starts up January 25th. <br>Students are divided up into teams responsible for one of three areas, the<br>online team that takes care of the interaction with our listeners, updating our<br>myspace/facebook/twitter pages, and our AIM screen name. The On-air team are<br>our DJ’s who fill up the shows content following a format that will last for<br>the whole hour we broadcast live. Finally our audio engineers are responsible<br>for monitoring the quality of the sound going out to our listeners. The show<br>is entirely by students for students. <br><br>Mixology 101 M-W-F 7pm<br>Introductory & comprehensive DJ classes will teach all aspects of being a DJ,<br>from “listening” to music, to techniques on equipment, Class taught by<br>respected local DJ & computer Lab Coordinator Vinnie “Split Image” Sierra. <br>Students who excel have the opportunity to move on to future financially<br>rewarding endeavors with Mr. Sierra as a part of a DJ “team”.<br><br>Our South Video project Tues. & Thurs. 5-6pm<br>A team of students will organize to film a reality documentary on a topic of<br>their choosing. Many different aspect from filing techniques to digital video<br>editing will be covered. A DVD release will be planned once the project<br>starts.<br><br>Movie Nights on the first Friday of Each Month 6-10pm<br>Southsides monthly late night program open for teens. A double feature shown<br>from 6pm—10pm in the gym with our huge projection (we use a almost a whole<br>wall!) and booming sound system. Dinner is also provided for those who<br>attend.<br><br>“Game Daze” Thursdays from 4pm-8pm<br>XBOX 360 video games and interesting contests and activities using the<br>computers. From Youtube video battles to Speed Searching, it’s a little break<br>from the normal routine.<br><br>Piano Lessons for youth (by appt)<br>Piano lessons will be offered this winter/spring season from Ithaca College and<br>Cornell student volunteers. Lessons will be scheduled according to<br>availability.<br><br>Introduction to Capoeira" Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm (ages 6-10)<br>Capoeira is best described as "a dance like a fight, a fight like a dance." An<br>Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and<br>dance, it was created in Brazil by slaves brought from Africa (especially from<br>present day Angola), sometime after the 16th century. This class is an<br>introduction to the basic movements, music and culture of capoeira, with a<br>focus on the "Sequences of Mestre Bimba" -- attack and defense training<br>combinations developed by the capoeira master who is considered the founder of<br>modern "capoeira regional."<br><br>African drum and dance 6-7:30pm(open to the public)<br>Come out and learn to play traditional African rhythms with Eugene Scott, local<br>musician/teacher. In order to understand the important relationship between<br>drummer and dancer, participants will also play for the African Dance class<br>lead by Shene James of Cornell University. Together these two classes will<br>coordinate an amazing presentation to be showcased at our Juneteenth<br>celebration.<br><br>Tap class 4-5pm Mondays (ages 5-8)<br>Continuing the African American legacy of tap dance, SSCC will be offering<br>beginning tap classes for children ages 5-8. This program is being run by<br>Cornell U student Shene James who has been studying tap for over 15 years and<br>is passionate about teaching young people.<br><br>Dance Crew (ages 12-16) Thursday 5-6:30pm<br>Participants will work along with Urban Blaze, the hip-hop crew from Cornell U<br>on dance routines to be performed at various events throughout the year ending<br>with a performance at Juneteenth. They will be taught hip-hop dance styles<br>through choreography and free style.<br><br>Fitness for youth Thursdays 6:30pm-8pm (ages 11-18)<br>Come and get your work out on with Ithaca’s very own True Benton and Lester<br>McNair of Free Will Awareness.
