The Alpha Chapter, having started here in the city of Ithaca at Cornell University, recognizes the significance of Ithaca on creating a culture such that the Fraternity could form and be sustained for over a century now. In this part of the lecture series we will trace the paths of Africans from the continent to the Americas and consider the dances that connect the descendents of uprooted and relocated peoples to their ancestral land and to each other across space and time. We will talk about characteristics of the African dance aesthetic and look at some moves to see how they are visible in contemporary dance of African diasporic peoples.
