We finished it strong and it is now happily occupied—costing next to nothing to heat and cool due to its superinsulation and other energy-saving green building methods. There will be plenty to do! Even with the addition of Sandy Haaf as our office assistant and Nate Litwin as our project coordinator, there’s plenty of work for you to do to help create green affordable housing locally and internationally. During this time he prepared for law school and eventually became a real estate attorney after completing three years of education at the University of Connecticut and passing the Connecticut Bar. He practiced primarily as a real estate attorney for three years in his home town before deciding he needed something more active, outdoors, and tactile. He worked for six months in Manhattan as a bicycle messenger before moving to Ithaca, New York in 2008. Since his move to Ithaca, Nate has worked in the residential green building trade as a local builder. He has gained experience in multiple areas of housing construction including super insulated and double stud homes. On the side Nate has worked as a facilitator for Cornell’s Team and Leadership Center. He is passionate about working for the public interest. This passion shows in his previous experience teaching outdoor education to youth at risk and interning as a child advocate in law school. He recently married this summer to Emily Hamilton who holds a position as a farm worker housing developer with the nonprofit ‘Pathstone’.
