The event is free for all thanks to sponsorship from TCAD, Tompkins County Area Development.<br> <br> <b>This year you can park your car at Stewart Park and take the free, special Kids’ Book Fest Express shuttle right to the entrance of the Book Fest. Easy to park and ride, you’ll be able to browse the program along the way, and children will receive an alphabet letter as they board! <br> </b> <br> This year the theme is “Love Those Letters! The Alphabet and Beyond!” All the letters of the alphabet and the words they make, will be the stars of this year’s Book Fest. Join the Amazing Alphabet Parade at 11:30 wearing your favorite letter. Bring a letter from home or make a letter button, necklace, hat, or sash at the Book Fest for the parade. <br> <br> Meet Tad Hills, the author and illustrator of the featured book, “How Rocket Learned to Read,” and his real life dog Rocket, and walk through a life-sized, interactive version of this charming story. More than 3,750 children in Tompkins County received “How Rocket Learned to Read” as gifts from their schools prior to the Book Fest, thanks to sponsorship from Wegmans Reading Centers.<br> <br> Families can listen to books read aloud, make their own book to take home, meet authors and illustrators and see performances based on books. Toddlers can visit Little Letter Land, a special area just for letter-loving little ones. In addition, more than 25 community organizations and libraries will host Book Stations with activities based on children’s books. Families will also enjoy seeing the Waterfall of Words and playing Alphabet Hopscotch! In addition, special displays from 27 classrooms from schools across Tompkins County will be showcased. <br> <br> The 2011 “Read to Me” calendar will be available for sale, as well as favorite children’s books, alphabet books, red book bags, and “Read to Me” note cards.
