Family and friends are welcome, and snacks will be provided!

May 17th, 6:30-8 pm: Pests in the Garden with Kerra Quinn
There's nothing more delicious than a juicy, ripe homegrown tomato or freshly-picked ear of corn. The problem is, humans aren't the only ones that think so! Longtime gardener and Dryden Community Garden founder Kerra Quinn will lead a discussion on small scale, ecologically friendly pest control for animals, birds and bugs in the home garden. The class will be taught in sections based on type of defense instead of type of pest: Prevention via 1. scent; 2. sounds; 3. visual; 4. physical barriers; and combinations of those. Bring your own tips, questions and experiences!

Kerra: "At introductions I'll ask people to tell the location of the garden they have, either a home plot or community, in the village or outside, etc. because there are some forms of pest control that involve using other animals but that isn't applicable to community gardens or village gardens, and some audio prevention you can use in rural areas but that your neighbors in the village would not tolerate..."

More upcoming classes:

June 21st, 6:30-8 pm: Weeds 101 with Antonio DiTomasso
Weeds. They're one of the gardener's worst enemies, but one of the forager's best friends! Learn about weed control in the garden and also some uses for wild plants. Which weeds are edible (and tasty)?
