Ithaca Youth Council to host candidate forum on Monday, August 29th
(Ithaca, NY) - The Ithaca Youth Council is pleased to host a youth-led candidate forum on Monday, August 29th featuring the three mayoral candidates running for the Democratic spot in the general election - J.R. Clairborne, Pam Mackesey and Svante Myrick. The event will be held at Ithaca City Hall in the 3rd floor Council Chambers from 6-7:30pm. Footage from this event will be broadcast live on Channel 15 and will rerun later that week. Youth Council invites Ithacans of all ages to come out take part in the civic process.

Youth Council believes that youth will thrive as integral and active members in a strong community. IYC will not endorse a candidate, but will use the forum to focus on issues that youth find most important in this year's mayoral race. "Ithaca needs a strong leader that has the skill and tact to shape our city's future positively," said IYC Chair Cody Austern-Aceto. "We are holding this forum to ensure that voters get a clear impression of how each candidate plans to engage our youth and use long term planning to continue making Ithaca a better place to live."

The Ithaca Youth Council is a self-directed group of teens who are charged with representing youth to Ithaca’s city government and advocating for youth throughout the community. As a collaborative effort between the Ithaca Youth Bureau, the Greater Ithaca Activities Center (GIAC) and the Southside Community Center, Youth Council has four main objectives: developing future leaders, giving formal voice to youth, engaging in civic education and improving conditions for local youth.
