I<br>think the idea of a directory makes a lot of sense given the diversity of<br>services offered and their geographic distribution.<br><br>Another repair offering to add to the list:<br><br>Significant Elements, Historic Ithaca's architectural salvage program,<br>provides lighting repair and furniture repair services (including cane and<br>rush chair seats, re-gluing loose joints, restoring wood finishes, and<br>replacing missing parts). We also offer training in these skills, both<br>through scheduled workshops and as a one-on-one service (for example, if<br>someone needed to re-cane a set of chairs, he/she could arrange for a lesson<br>with our in-house furniture expert). <br><br>Much of this work is accomplished through our Work Preserve job training<br>program where participants learn repair skills along with retail/customer<br>service and basic job skills. Our crew has repaired and refinished many<br>donated items which are available in the Significant Elements showroom. The sewing machine repair class sponsored by<br>SewGreen was a huge step in the right direction that deserved broader<br>recognition. I posted a link to a local lamp repair service last year;<br>maybe start with a local repair directory?<br><br><blockquote type="cite">Perhaps this is something the Ludgate's working group could<br></blockquote><blockquote type="cite">consider....?<br></blockquote><br>Ludgate's was a drop-off point for the lamp repair service. If it gets<br>going again it could be a drop-off point for others as well.
