I am unable to attend tonights meeting but I am willing to teach 2 modules
1). "Scholarly Literacies" and "Power & the State". A possible scheme of work for "Scholarly Literacies can be viewed on http://bit.ly/MD2xJb?
My other interest is Power and the State, I have a huge amount of literature on this subject. My main teaching books are "State Theory" and "State Power" both by Bob Jessop. "Legitimation Crisis" by Jurgens Habermas. "The State in Capitalist Society" by Ralph Miliband. Some other useful resources include: "Varieties of Capitalism" by Soskice and Hall. "A Critique of the Varieties of Capital Approach" by Nahee Kang,"The Great Transformation" by Karl Polanyi, "Karl Polanyi, Writing the Great Transformation" by Karl Block, "Corporatism, Capitalism and Depression in 20th Century Britain" by Alan Booth

I have well over 150 pieces of academic literature that I can contribute. again I am going to post the scheme of work for the module on the blog.

I want to teach these subjects because the fundingof education in the Social Sciences is being massively reduced and unless people are prepared to find alternative ways of teaching and learning Social Sciences will become a thing of the past. I was fortunate to get my degree through part time study when I was 40 years of age. I think the chances of somebody like me having the opportunity to study later on in life have been reduced due in part to the "austerity programme" but also due to State policies of successive governments as the final vestiges of the postwar historic compromise through out the last 20 years have been abandoned to the increasing marketization of Higher Education.

Greetings - just to say sorry I've missed a few meetings through being away;
think it's an excellent idea to come prepared with course outlines tonight.
I started trying to produce one called 'Individual and Society' and though
have lots of ideas down in accordance with previous discussions, won't have
it ready for later. Therefore,  realistically think I should declare now
that I am happy to help out where needed on others' courses, but won't be
able to offer one myself...... and will also have to send apologies for
tonight.

Hope it goes well. Heather

Hello everyone,

Tonight's meeting starts at 7.30pm at Pathways on Beaumont Fee. I will be there from 6.30pm to offer training and help with using WordPress, blogging and the new 'social' features for members.

The agenda for tonight's meeting will focus on developing the curriculum. As previously requested, could any member who wishes to teach or study with the SSC, please try to attend this meeting. If you are unable to attend, but do intend to teach or study with the SSC, please can you let me know by emailing me directly. Thank you.

Best wishes
Joss
