 Yes, I agree. I actually got into academia by accepting a lectureship
at an FE college (which Mike decided not to do), which later turned into
a HEI.

Thanks, Mike, that was a really interesting read. It might be something
we encourage more of at the SSC to show students and prospective
students that we all come from different backgrounds and there are many
ways to higher education.
