Accreditation

Journalists wishing to cover the G8 Summit will need to be accredited.
Each accredited journalist will be issued with a badge, which must be
worn to gain admission to the Media Centre, to attend press conferences
and to use the transportation services to and from the Media Centre.

Badges will be available for collection from Accreditation Centres a few
days before the G8 Summit. The precise location of Accreditation Centres
has yet to be decided, but they will be in central Edinburgh and central
Glasgow.

*Tuesday, 31 May 2005* is the deadline for accreditation applications.

You can submit your media accreditation form in two ways:

1. Online

2. By post

Please print off and send a completed (PDF) form with two passport-sized
photographs to:

Transportation

A streamlined system for security clearance and official transport will
be available for travel between Edinburgh and Glasgow and the Media
Centre at the Gleneagles Hotel.

Accommodation

A large number of hotel rooms have been reserved for journalists.
Availability of hotel rooms is guaranteed up to 30 April 2005. However,
it is wise to make hotel reservations in good time. To book a hotel,
please click on the hotel reservations website
<http://www.g8.gov.uk/servlet/ExternalLinkURLRedirectServlet?linkurl=https%3A%2F%2Fseeglasgow.com%2Fsecure%2F2005%2Fmap.asp&LinkMap=0&linkname=PostG8_MED_scotlandmap&referpagename=Media+Information>,
hosted by SeeGlasgow.com.

Media Centre

The Media Centre will be located at the Gleneagles Equestrian Centre,
near the Gleneagles Hotel. The Media Centre will offer workspaces with
telephones with analogue and digital modem connections, a small number
of computers providing Internet access, faxes, photocopiers and offices
for International News Agencies.

A Host Broadcaster will provide live TV and radio coverage of the public
events during the Summit. They will also process reservations for TV
editing rooms and radio booths, stand-up positions and technical signal
distribution and broadcast services. The Host Broadcaster will handle
reservations for parking spaces for technical support and satellite
vehicles and for stand-up positions.

Visa requirements for non-EU journalists

Please note that journalists from some countries outside the EU may
require a visa to enter the United Kingdom. A visa for the UK can be
obtained from the nearest UK overseas mission that offers a visa
service. We advise you to apply for a visa well in advance of the
Summit. Without a visa you may be refused entry to the UK. For further
details, please refer to the UK Visas website
<http://www.g8.gov.uk/servlet/ExternalLinkURLRedirectServlet?linkurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ukvisas.gov.uk&LinkMap=0&linkname=PostG8_MED_UKVisas&referpagename=Media+Information>.

Protesters

*What information do you have about the numbers of people that will come
to protest?*

At this stage it would be foolish to speculate regarding the numbers of
any protesters and their intentions. There are many significant events
that will take place prior to the Summit, which may colour the agenda of
any protest. Tayside Police has planned a major security operation to
ensure that those who come to protest lawfully will be facilitated but
those who do otherwise will be dealt with robustly. * It’s hoped that
recognised protest groups will take the opportunity to work with the
police to this end.*

*What is the lawful position regarding protest in **Scotland**?*

Under the law, all public processions in Scotland must apply to the
local authority for the area and receive approval. Any local authorities
receiving such an application must consult the chief constable for the
area. Under the Public Order Act 1986, it is an offence for anyone
taking part in a demonstration not to comply with any conditions imposed
by the police. Any processions and demonstrations which take place will
be policed appropriately. Anyone who breaks the law, whether on a public
procession or a demonstration, will be dealt with using the full force
of the law.

*What happens if I am suspicious of someone?*
Members of the public often report suspicious incidents to the police
and they should continue to do this. Extra vigilance by the public will
help the security operation.

"Home Secretary Rt Hon Charles Clarke MP has confirmed that the G8 JHA (

Justice and Home Affairs) summit of interior and justice ministers will

be taking place in Sheffield from 15-17 June. The meeting will include

interior and justice ministers from Canada, France, Germany, Italy,

Japan, Russia, the UK, and the USA. It will look at a number of major

international issues. These include counter-terrorism, migration, law

enforcement, legal affairs, and hi-tech crime."

<>The Foreign Office is actively seeking private sector partners.
Interested companies should contact Lexis PR, the sponsorship
consultants for the G8 presidency (Matthew Elton: melton at lexispr.com
<mailto:melton at lexispr.com>).

*Is the G8 out of touch?*

No. The leaders may meet in private at the Summit, but this doesn’t mean
that the views of NGOs, businesses and other interested groups are not
heard and taken into account. There will be a wide-ranging consultation
exercise before the Summit. One example is the Prime Minister’s
Commission for Africa. Many leading Africans from different parts of
society are involved. Bob Geldof, who set up the huge Live Aid concerts
twenty years ago, is playing a leading role. The Commission’s work will
involve a huge amount of dialogue with all interested parties. Its
report in spring 2005 will be an important contribution to the Summit.
