It's now all-but-certain that the general election will be on 5th
>>> May. It's also pretty definite that the ID cards bill won't make
>>> it through the Lords before parliament is dissolved, and will
>>> become an election issue. Certainly David Blunkett seems keen to
>>> campaign for ID cards:

>>
>>> I'm coordinator for the Cambridge NO2ID group, and we're happy to
>>> join battle with Mr Blunkett on this issue, because we know that
>>> when people are told they'll have to *pay* for an ID card, even
>>> the apathetic become opponents.
>>>
>>> To help us campaign, we'll be getting some double-sided flyers
>>> printed professionally. Here's the current draft design:

>>
>>
>>> While the "Labour's Identity Tax" flyer is accurate and true, it
>>> may nevertheless be illegal to distribute it during the election
>>> campaign - I'm currently getting advice on this. If so, our
>>> fallback is to use a "Government Identity Tax" design:

>>
>>
>>> Because of economies of scale, flyers like this are a lot cheaper
>>> to print in 10,000+ quantities than 1000+ quantities:
>>>
>>> 5,000 double-sided on glossy paper .... £177 10,000 double-sided
>>> on glossy paper .... £215 20,000 double-sided on glossy paper
>>> .... £290
>>>
>>> Cambridge will be using at least 5,000 (we used 11,000 in our
>>> last three-week leafletting campaign). Would you like to order
>>> some too? Cambridge would handle the printing and posting the
>>> leaflets to you. If we can get the total print run to 20,000,
>>> then I estimate that 2,000 A5 flyers delivered to your door would
>>> cost you about £45. With larger total runs, the costs would be
>>> lower.
>>>
>>> If you'd like to join us, please email either Chris Lightfoot
>>> <chris at ex-parrot.com>, Tim Steele <tjfsteele at ntlworld.com> or
>>> myself, or call me on 07710 469624 (evenings).
>>>
>>> I plan to send the order to the printers on Monday 4th April, and
>>> get leaflets to those who want them by Friday 8th, in time for
>>> the probable first weekend of the "real" election campaign.
>>>
>>> Cheers,
>>>
>>> Andrew
