 BBC: Scroungers 'On The Fiddle'
The BBC is to screen a series about benefit cheats
called �On The Fiddle�, this programme is coming
at a very sensitive time when the Green Paper on
Disability Benefit reform is due. It�s a
�documentary series� starting tomorrow night which
follows a team of investigators who are tracking down
fraudulent claimants of benefits.


Leaving aside the awful nature of the programme,
should the BBC be putting out such a one sided
programme, (you can be sure it won�t show the stress
and anxiety that the claiming process engenders) when
what will be very controversial measures will be
discussed and debated across the country. One can just
see how the tabloids and the right wing press will use
this series to further their agenda of attacking those
on welfare and the welfare state

Perhaps, we should ask for a 'right to reply' follow
through programme that tracks someone going through
the system with all the form filling and telephone
calls, the frequent medicals and the wait for the
decision, then perhaps having to go to appeal and the
anxiety and stress that causes.
