wishing to cover the G8 Summit will need to be accredited. Each
accredited
journalist will be issued with a badge, which must be worn to gain
admission to
the Media Centre, to attend press conferences and to use the
transportation
services to and from the Media Centre. <br>

Badges will be available for collection from Accreditation Centres a
few days
before the G8 Summit. The precise location of Accreditation Centres has
yet to
be decided, but they will be in central Edinburgh and central Glasgow. <br>

At this stage it would be foolish to speculate regarding the numbers of
any
protesters and their intentions. There are many significant events that
will

protest. Tayside Police has planned a major security operation to
ensure that
those who come to protest lawfully will be facilitated but those who do

<b>What is the lawful position regarding protest in </b></span><st1:country-region><st1:place><b><span

Under the law, all public processions in </span><st1:country-region><st1:place><span

for the area and receive approval. Any local authorities receiving such
an
application must consult the chief constable for the area. Under the
Public
Order Act 1986, it is an offence for anyone taking part in a
demonstration not

demonstrations which take place will be policed appropriately. Anyone
who
breaks the law, whether on a public procession or a demonstration, will
be
dealt with using the full force of the law.<br>

No. The leaders may meet in private at the </span><st1:City><st1:place><span
style="" lang="EN-GB">Summit</span></st1:place></st1:City><span
style="" lang="EN-GB">, but this doesn’t mean that the
views of NGOs, businesses and other interested groups are not heard and
taken
into account. There will be a wide-ranging consultation exercise
before
the </span><st1:City><st1:place><span style="" lang="EN-GB">Summit</span></st1:place></st1:City><span
style="" lang="EN-GB">. One example is the Prime
Minister’s Commission for </span><st1:place><span style="" lang="EN-GB">Africa</span></st1:place><span
style="" lang="EN-GB">. Many leading Africans from different parts of
society are involved.
Bob Geldof, who set up the huge Live Aid concerts twenty years ago, is
playing
a leading role. The Commission’s work will involve a huge amount of
dialogue
with all interested parties. Its report in spring 2005 will be an
