Hey buddies,
We're doing a 2 hour crash-course on screen printing at QPIRG Concordia
Monday at 3pm as part of our momma-organization's (QPIRG Concordia)
Alternative Orientation program, which is open to EVERYONE and is almost
entirely free 'cept for the fundraiser party on Friday, which raises funds
for our friends at the Prisoner Correspondence Project. All the info is
below.

This workshop is the first in this year’s monthly sessions about activism
and community involvement for students. These sessions are meant for anyone
who is curious or interested in getting more involved in their community,
and engaging in social and environmental justice issues. “Activism for
Students 101” will include an overview of collectives, groups,
organizations, campaigns and projects that people can join or volunteer, as
well as answer any questions participants might have about social justice
organizing in the Montreal context. We will also discuss QPIRG’s
anti-oppression, grassroots organizing framework. Activism for Students 101
is part of QPIRG Concordia’s mandate to make meaningful links between the
campus and the community. Join us and learn more about how to get involved.

Ste. Emilie Skillshare presents a 2 hour workshop/skillshare on
screen-printing – what it is, how to do it and how to use it for social and
environmental justice activism. We’ll talk about Ste. Emilie, our political
mandate and how we work with students and community members as a
“alternative” volunteer run art space. We’ll talk about all the ways you can
use screen-printing as a tool for activism – fundraiser t-shirts, campaign
posters, outreach tools and as a community building/empowering group
activity. We will also highlight how students can get involved and volunteer
with us. The Ste-Emilie Skillshare is a working group of QPIRG Concordia.

In BAS! Beyond the Red Light 13 young girls sold into Mumbai’s infamous
network of gated brothels confront the inner and outer perils of life after
rescue and reveal the very human story inside the big business of child
trafficking. The film explores this lesser known issue of rehabilitation and
reintegration of child victims from these girls point of view.

Come out and find out about the campaign to create a Bottled Water Free
Concordia and ensure the negotiation of a better beverage contract.
TAPthirst will take you on a tour of the impacts of the bottled water
industry – from environmental degradation to human rights issues – and bring
you up to speed on one of this year’s major campaigns to create a more
sustainable campus. TAPthirst is a working group of QPIRG Concordia.

Radio. He has been called "the best sportswriter in the United States.” Dave
Zirin’s books include: "A People's History of Sports in the United States,"

the Montreal community with more than 25 local groups present. A free BBQ
lunch will be served by the People’s Potato. In addition, the tabling fair
will include the first-ever joint live broadcast by CKUT and CJLO radio
stations and a stenciling workshop by the Ste-Emilie Skillshare.

Come learn more about social justice struggles at Concordia University and
beyond. Topics include: The 1969 Sir George Williams Computer Center Riot;
The 1970 Santhanam Affair; The 1987 Day of Action Against Tuition Hikes; The
2002 Netanyahu Riot/Uprising on Campus; and more. As well, learn about food
politics, feminism, gender liberation, corporatization and campus space,
environmental justice & sustainability, and labour politics The walking tour
will begin in the QPIRG space at 2pm, and move to other areas of campus
shortly afterwards. The tour will last approximately 90 minutes.

Community-University Research Exchange (CURE) and how to make your class
work meaningful beyond campus. Concordia professors Viviane Namaste (Simone
de Beauvoir Institute) and Julie Norman (Political Science) will also talk
about the importance of CURE and how to incorporate it into your semester.
This will also be a launch of the first-ever “Convergence” Undergraduate
Journal featuring CURE and Study in Action papers from previous years.

This workshop will provide a foundation for a basic critical analysis of
prison systems. Discussion will touch on dispelling myths surrounding the
purpose of prisons; exploring the effects of criminalization and racial
profiling; examining pop cultural representations of crime and criminals;
providing information on North American prison conditions and the Prison
Industrial Complex; discussing penal abolition and alternatives to
incarceration; and offering opportunities for new students to become
involved in prison justice organizing in Montreal. Open Door Books is a
working group of QPIRG Concordia.

Panelists:
Jessica Yee is a self-described Indigenous feminist reproductive justice
freedom fighter. 24 years old and Two-Spirited from the Mohawk Nation,
Jessica is the founder and Executive Director of the Native Youth Sexual
Health Network, a CanAmerica wide organization by youth and for youth. She
has spent more than half her life mobilizing individuals, families, and
communities alike to reclaim their ancestral rights to self-determine
decisions over their own bodies and spaces.
Melissa Elliott is co-founder of Young Onkwehonwe United (YOU), a rising
youth group at Six Nations that has been campaigning for a youth centre and
a stronger youth voice in their community. She has also sat as the youth
delegate on the Six Nations land claims negotiations team. Melissa is a
strong advocate for Six Nations sovereignty and a nation-to-nation
relationship between Six Nations and the Canadian State and its
municipalities based on the Two Row Wampum Treaty.
