<br>Come by the Quebec Public Interest Research Group (QPIRG) at Concordia to learn more about the projects, publications, initiatives and working groups of your campus-community link for social change.<br><br>QPIRG's core projects include: Study In Action (undergraduate/community/artist research conference), the Community-University Research Exchange (CURE), and a Resource Library and Poster Archive. QPIRG's publications include School Schmool (activist day planner and radical guide), Convergence (a journal of undergraduate and community research) and At The Heart of Resistance (working groups journal). QPIRG's 30 working groups organize on a wide variety of issues ranging from anti-war organizing to prison justice, from art skillsharing to immigrant rights, from international solidarity to independent media. The QPIRG space is wheelchair accessible, with public computer terminals, wireless internet, as well as a lounge and meeting space. Come by our Open House -- which will include snacks and beverages -- and learn more about social and environmental justice on campus and in the community.<br>
<br><br><b>MONDAY, September 19, 1pm-3pm<br>Activism for Students 101 workshop </b></div><div><b>@ QPIRG Concordia – 1500 de Maisonneuve West, #204</b><br><br>This workshop is the first in this year’s monthly sessions about activism and community involvement for students. These sessions are meant for anyone who is curious or interested in getting more involved in their community, and engaging in social and environmental justice issues. “Activism for Students 101” will include an overview of collectives, groups, organizations, campaigns and projects that people can join or volunteer, as well as answer any questions participants might have about social justice organizing in the Montreal context. We will also discuss QPIRG’s anti-oppression, grassroots organizing framework. Activism for Students 101 is part of QPIRG Concordia’s mandate to make meaningful links between the campus and the community. Join us and learn more about how to get involved. No need to register, just show up!<br>

English<br><br>In 2003, on the eve of the Iraq war, acclaimed filmmaker Iara Lee embarked on a journey to better understand a world increasingly embroiled in conflict and, as she saw it, heading for self-destruction. After several years, traveling over five continents, Iara encountered growing numbers of people who committed their lives to promoting change. From Iran, where graffiti and rap became tools in fighting government repression, moving on to Brazil, where musicians reach out to slum kids and transform guns into guitars, and ending in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, where photography, music, and film have given a voice to those rarely heard, CULTURES OF RESISTANCE explores how art and creativity can be ammunition in the battle for peace and justice.<br>

<br><b>TUESDAY, September 20, 1pm<br>“Theatre for Change” workshop w/ Ponni Arasu (part 1) </b></div><div><b>@ H760 – 1455 de Maisonneuve West</b><br><br>Theatre as a tool for social change has a long history across the world. There is no better way to say what you want to say than drama! Come learn to use theatre as a way to get your point across easily, while having a blast yourself. The process of working as a theatre artist, the challenge, love, warmth and camaraderie is unforgettable and its effect stellar. History has shown us this repeatedly. Come and get a taste of what all this drama is about! This form of theatre is used extensively within student activism on campuses. This workshop will enable students to do the same on their campus. Participants attending part one of the workshop are strongly encouraged to attend part two as well. Space is limited, please arrive early, and remember to wear comfy clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. <br>

The coming years of austerity, cutbacks and regressive social policies will be a huge challenge for social and environmental justice movements. We encourage students and community members to join the “Harper Mutiny,” a teach-in and discussion about the policies of the Conservative government and how to effectively resist them in the coming years. We will learn more, from local campus and community-based groups, about the Harper government’s policies on education & accessibility, immigrant rights, national security, crime and prisons, the environment, the economy and more. Join the Harper Mutiny on September 20. Let’s build resistance together!<br>
