[syfaslane365] Two questions

Dear Jill,

I'm happy to say 'yes' to going ahead with the blockade. I'm less keen - but
will stand aside if the consensus is affirmative - that the campaign name
should go unchanged - but I guess we live in hope.

I'll be on the blockade anyway, whatever the name.

Thanks, JB.

Subject: [syfaslane365] Two questions

Hi People

Below is an email from the F365 steering group. At the end, are two
questions for all blockading groups. I propose we say yes, yes. Please
say if you'd prefer a different response.

Jillx

Dear Blockading Groups of Faslane 365 (or those preparing to become
Blockading Groups),

The Steering Group met recently and decided we need to communicate with you
specifically about how the campaign is going. At the moment 39 groups are
committed to a two-day blockade and have chosen their dates in the rota.
These dates cover 57 days so far as some do not overlap with other groups.
And a number of other groups, between 15 and 40, are at various stages
of the process and may join with other groups or take on their own Blocks.
We want to go ahead, as this response is a big step up from the frequency
of active nonviolent resistance at Faslane over the last few years.
However, it now looks unlikely that we will have 100 groups signed up when
the blockades begin on 1st October, though we will go on working towards
getting more groups involved and are confident that the numbers will grow.

When we first invited you to take part we said that Faslane 365 would not
go ahead unless we had the 100 groups committed to the first 100 days of
the rota. That was the basis on which your group made its commitment.
Under the changed circumstances, we feel it is only right that you should
be given a chance to withdraw now, without pressure or blame, if you wish
to do so.

In our March update, and at mobilisation meetings since then, we said that
in the event of not reaching the target of 100 groups the Steering Group
would be prepared to provide overall support and training to groups that
wished to go ahead in any case. We are happy to repeat that offer. This
includes groups who are in the process of committing to a date on the rota
as well as those which have already chosen a date. Our communications with
many groups indicate that most of you are likely to want to continue but
we do need to check this formally with you now.

We hope that all of you will feel it is worthwhile to continue to commit
to your dates in the rota or to sign up for a date if you have not done so
already and trust that others will join in as time passes. We will
certainly continue to invite new groups to take part and continue to work
for a year as full of blockades as possible.

Can you please fill in on behalf of your group the questionnaire below?

In peace. Angie for the Steering Group
