Chief Fire Officer has paid tribute to Crew Manager Paul Fletcher who died in <st1:PersonName

Mr Fletcher was pronounced dead at St Mary’s Hospital, <st1:City w:st="on">Newport</st1:City>,
shortly after attending a call to <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName>
nearby HM Prison, <st1:place w:st="on">Isle of Wight</st1:place>, an incident
which turned out to be a false alarm.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><st1:Street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on"><font size=2 face="Segoe UI"><span
lang=EN-US style='font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Segoe UI"'>Chief Fire Officer

said Mr Fletcher, 39, of Newchurch, had been a credit to himself and <st1:PersonName

notably training where his work was of such high quality that earlier this year

w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName> rapid improvement of <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName>
service in recent years and was enthusiastic about continuing that improvement
through <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName> Model for Change
Project.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font size=2 face="Segoe UI"><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:11.0pt;
font-family:"Segoe UI"'>“Paul was also very active and highly successful
in working with <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName> Fire Brigades
Union nationally, regionally and locally starting as brigade secretary and
moving on to <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName> post of regional
chairman.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>
<p><font size=2 face="Segoe UI"><span lang=EN-US style='font-size:11.0pt;
font-family:"Segoe UI"'>“Paul will be sadly missed as both a colleague

font-family:"Segoe UI"'>Mr Fletcher joined <st1:PersonName w:st="on">the</st1:PersonName>
IW Fire and Rescue Service in April 2004 as a fire-fighter, having served

became a crew manager in May this year.<o:p></o:p></span></font></p>

font-family:"Segoe UI"'>He leaves a wife Lisa and two children, a daughter of
