sorry its not a protocol but "friend of a friend"  FOAF is a buzzword in the
"semantic web" crowd, as a way of mapping social networks.. blah blah.

I apologise for (ab)use of jargon.  I trying to suggest a  way of maintaining
human contact between lists and sysadmins, that doesn't depend on complex
definitions.  For example I've never met you (or lots of people here) but its
quite likely we have a mutual contact.  Something like the cuppa tea protocol
http://consume.net/twiki/bin/view/Main/CupOfTeaProtocol but once or twice
removed.
