Bristol Artivists ready for some artion

Bristol Artivist has established itself as a new group
to develop political art in Bristol and the
surrounding area. BArtivist is a not an official group
as such but more like a regular meeting time and point
(3rd Saturday of month at 3pm at Kebele) for artists
and activists to get together to produce art and to
share ideas. The idea of the workshop was aired at
Bristle Dissent! group to produce some stencils
against the G8. This brought together people who had
been previously involved in Bristol Artists Against
War and other community arts projects plus other
politically minded artists and anti-G8 activists. The
first workshops were bursting with ideas as activists
shared inspiration and techniques. The possibilities
and potential became clear and as a result these
afternoons became an established date for regular
workshops. And the ball started rolling! The group
plans to hold collective exhibitions in different
venues in Bristol around the themes of the G8 and
capitalist terrorism (venues to be confirmed). If you
know of any venues in your area let us know. Also,
contact us if you are an artist and want to take part
in this exhibition as well as in the group workshop.
In the meantime the group also thinks of holding art
action days in town. You can see a sample of the art
developed by the group in the back of this issue.
BArtivist will be taking place in Dissent’s School
Day. BArtivist also has an e-mail group to discuss
ideas and actions.
