Hi again,

I found the notes I made in the meeting... (shame I lost them in the
first place!)
notes from meeting in london.

hosting

we don't need money at the moment but for the future we will.

things we will need money for:

- the domain name
- hardware
- bandwidth - specially if we want to expand

ability to grow is important.

there is the planning to share hosting with tachanka. they have costs,
they will need money too so it would be good to feed money into them.
their own costs are bigger - their
bandwith is bigger.

people who can afford to pay should pay because it costs money and time
to fix
things.

one idea is to have membership and get people to pay if they have a
website, or
a list... ask people to pay if they can afford it. and explain to people
that
we do this is not paying for services, this is paying for membership and
on top of
it is expected to do some volunteering.

agreed: we are happy to receive donations but we do not provide commercial
services.
to receive donations we need to use a friendly business. we need to find
this.
at the moment it is ok to use a friendly workers coop but in the future
we may need
to find another one if an invoice is needed.

--

we're getting new rack space for december. costs - none, except unexpected
excess.

web space

we should work towards this. need to give people a v server and give
people the access to maintain it themselves and make it clear that they are
going to be responsible for that space.

another option would be just specific
content management systems, like drupal & media wiki which allow to have
many
sites of a single instance, and less maintenance is required.

the point of both
options is to minimise the maintenance required, and if there are sites that
are not properly mantained that doesn't mess up the rest of them.

ekes is donating a box.

Personally I feel quite low on energy right now, or rather too drawn
into other projects... but can we try and have another meeting inside
the indymedia uk network meeting in february or so? There is so much
going on at the moment, I don't quite want to propose a date for an irc
meeting and then risk that i will not make it myself...

There doesn't seem to be much energy here either... are we all
supporting migrants and frantically buying servers for indymedia?

ana
