This is now short notice, because I kept sending it to the wrong address. But good news is that there may be a radical campaign being launched in the next few months about caring and carers, as opposed to the liberal hand-wringing that the media is stuffed full of. Please contact me if you are interested in hearing more.

Not a feminist book as such, but both Lucy and I are feminists, as are other people connected with the book, and this is an issue that touches many of us, whatever our politics. Even if you cant make it to the meeting, the book is a very timely read. Also, other readings are being arranged in other parts of London and elsewhere.
Best, Gail

Telling Tales About Dementia: Experiences of Caring
Book event at City and Hackney Carers Centre
On Thursday 21 January at 2.30pm there will be a reading by contributors to the new anthology, Telling Tales About Dementia: Experiences of Caring which is published by Jessica Kingsley Publishers. In this book, 30 carers from different backgrounds and in different circumstances describe their experiences of looking after someone with dementia.
The book is edited by Lucy Whitman, who cared for her mother when she developed vascular dementia. She will be joined by some of the other contributors including Gail Chester and Marylyn Duncan, reading extracts from their stories, followed by questions and discussion.
The book has been welcomed by family carers, carers' organisations and dementia professionals. The broadcaster John Suchet, who is caring for his wife Bonnie, who has dementia, says:
'These personal accounts by family carers, harrowing, distressing, but also inspiring and uplifting, will have you weeping one moment and laughing the next, as they describe struggling to manage situations that range from horrific to comical. The single most valuable achievement of this book is to tell carers they are not alone.'
