Feminism and Libraries: Knowledge is our Superpower  on Saturday, 31 January 2015

The Feminist Library is hosting its first Salon of 2015 - our 40th Anniversary year!

 

3.30pm to 6pm: Drop in comic drawing workshop. Materials provided by the Feminist Library but please feel free to bring your own artwork and materials if you wish to do so. The following fab artists will be at the drop in comic drawing workshop to help you hone your skills: Laura Callaghan  Karen Rubins  Rachael Smith  Sally Jane Thompson. Samantha and Sofia from Geeked Magazine will also be running a stall at the event in which they will be selling really cool stuff and artwork by the artists, not to mention copies of My So-Called Secret Identity.

 

These events can be attended independently.

 

6.30pm: Welcome and inauguration of the Feminist Library's 40th Anniversary Salon Programme

6.40 to 7pm: Professor Will Brooker (Kingston University), one of the authors of My So-Called Secret Identity, will be discussing the original supercool librarian, Batgirl, libraries, feminism and super heroines

7pm: Discussion: Marginalisation and Libraries: Does Feminism need a Library?

Discussion participants include: The Radical Librarians Collective, Professor Will Brooker, Claire L. Hayward, Members of the Feminist Library's Collections Team
8pm to 9.30pm: Social and book/artwork signing. Your chance to meet the library volunteers, authors and artists, plus members of the discussion panel.

This event will also celebrate the Feminist Library having a fully searchable online catalogue.
