Hi Mo, et All

Thanks for the message (pls see Mo's message on 'International Student
Movement' below), which I'll bring to the attention of the CRD meeting
and some wider networks (see attached campaign lists in "to" field).
Mo do you think it possible for us to find unity across the student /
localist democracy divide? If so, would be great to have someone from
student/education groups present at our London meeting on the 23rd
July, both to promote our involvement in the student actions in
November, but also to find out more about what we are doing.

For more info on the 23rd, and background info, see www.newsov.org

Best wishes
Mark

> Hello Mark,
>
> it would be great, if the following information can be forwarded to the CRD
> meeting:
>
> I am a student activist in Germany and initiator of the "International Day
> of Action against the Commercializtion of Education", which took place on
> Nov.5th 2008. Groups in more than 20 countries on 5 continents participated.
> You can access a presentation summarizing all the actions on that day here:
> (.pdf/~3MB)
>
> Groups around the world protested for free (and emancipatory) public
> education and against the commercialisation of education in the year 2008.
> For a complete list go here:

> I am working on a similar list for this year as well:

>
> As a result of the co-ordination efforts ahead of the international day of
> action a loose network was created, which now calls itself "International
> Students Movement" (because most groups involved are dominated by students,
> but of course the platform is open to all social groups struggling against
> the commercialisation of education and for free and emancipating public
> education; i.e. teachers, parents, pupils, workers,...).
> Various activists around the world have chat conferences regularly.
>
> After the international day of action the platform called for the "Reclaim
> your Education - Global Week of Action" in April this year:
>
> Priority for us is to unite groups and movements around the world and
> promote the global perspective of the struggle. In the end the aim is to
> increase the political pressure on a global scale and get governments to
> implement free public education systems, that are based on an emancipating
> approach and are accessible to all.
>
> With each internationally co-ordinated protest the global movements gets
> stonger. Therefore the "International Students Movement" is once again
> calling for a Global Week of Action in Nov. 2009:
>
> A few platforms to co-ordinate things have been set up:
>
> a website with many different forums to help to create new networks locally
> and globally: http://www.emancipating-education-for-all.org
>
> a group on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=37734834372
> "Reclaim your Education - Global Week of Action 2009!" (especially for those
> registered there already; it was set up for the previous week, but will
> probably also used for the next one)
>
> regular international chat conferences with "group representatives" and
> inidividual activists; the next one is coming up on July.19th (let me know,
> if you want to attend and I will send you the details)
>
> a mailing list (with more than 500 contacts from around the world):
>
> If you have any questions or suggestions, then just drop me
> (international.students.movement at gmail.com) a line.
>
> It would be great, if you will also unite with groups and movements around
> the world for the Global Week of Action in Nov. this year.

> In Solidarity,

>> Hi Everyone
>>
>> Here is an invite for the 23rd July, our next CRD meeting for people to
>> send out to their networks.
>>
>> CRD MEETING THURSDAY 23rd JULY
>>
>> The next CRD (Campaign for Real Democracy) meeting will be on the eve of
>> Thursday 23rd July, from 6.30pm for a 7pm start. It will be held in the
>> Guernica Tapestry round table space at the Whitechapel Gallery (77-82
>>  Whitechapel High St, E1 Aldgate East tube). For more info, see:
>>
>> The purpose of CRD is to further develop our network of people to campaign
>> for a genuine, democratic society (meaning: one based on
>> inclusive, consensus based decision-making). Suggested items for the agenda
>> are: (1) short discussion to prepare a bullet point list of the various
>> obstacles to real democracy (2) info sharing about which local
>> campaigns need our support (3) considering prospect of a formal "localists'
>> union" (4) further discussion about possible demands for said union (in
>> particular regarding land tenure) (5) if time (ie. in pub/cafe afterwards
>> ;-) ) further discussion about eg Land Value Taxation (LVT), concept of
>> clean slate/debt cancellation for 2012, making links with student and wider
>> work-place struggles and other important questions relating to political
>> economy and superstructure..
>>
>> Please note, this meeting will be recorded as part of the Goshka Macuga's
>> one year long art project "The Nature of the Beast". One creative
>> proposal is that for each obstacle to real democracy identified, people are
>> invited to make a paper "brick" and so create a collage wall to
>> represent our collective response to the question posed.
>>
>> Please let us know if you are planning to attend by emailing
>> crdlondon at gmail.com
>> And to join the CRD mailing list, send your request to james at dogmanet.org
