[Cc-webedit] Front page

Hi all,
I think it's great that Jon updated the front page to big-up the coal
caravan, and agree that we haven't been as good as we should have been at
promoting it. I copied Penny's email flagging up the need to be ready to do
this after the G20 to this list on 31 March - so I think Jon was filling a
gap that needed filling.
However I can also see why Neil is worried that some of the other links have
gone, and it's not ideal process to be having to make changes in a hurry,
and wants to make sure that changes to the front page are agreed.
Overall I think we need to be realistic about the way that website updates
tend to happen: there are a group of site editors, one of us gets contacted
if someone needs something done to the website (including the front page),
they make the necessary changes and then, as Jon has done, send a message to
this list notifying everyone of what changes they've made. Others can then
chip in with suggestions on list - including reintroducing things that have
been taken off if that's what people feel is needed.
This is what happened when I updated the front page after the G20, and it
seemed to work.
I know Neil put up some info about the Coal Caravan during the Brighton
gathering after a call from Penny. This was a good start, though clearly
more info was needed. So it would probably have been good to flag the
initial changes up to this list once so that other people could build on
that work - that way we might have been able to ward off Penny feeling
frustrated that the Caravan wasnt' getting enough support.
In this situation, I'd suggest going back to Jon's version, but Neil
specifying what he thinks needs adding back in, so that we can get
everything that we need up there. Does that make sense?
And then, building on James's point, if we can find a way to have daily
reports (plus photos etc) from the caravan up on a Caravan page of the
website, that would be even better. Anyone able to take this on?
Cheers,
Jonathan
