Yes - we always planned on developing the blogs on the current site but never really got it off the ground. so it's great if people have the energy for that.
On the technical side, the current blog on the site doesn't work particularly well - it's awkward to use and, as Simon says, it doesn't behave like a conventional blog- in fact it's a series of normal website pages, masquerading as blog posts.
But i don't think it's a good idea to have a blog separate to the main site - this will create a lot of confusion and play havoc with Search Engine Optimisation. And it will make the current site appear even more static than it already is. We should be able to find a way for blogs to work better on the main site - either by improving the current blogging tool or embedding something like wordpress. And we should look at making it more prominent on the homepage.
I think it's also not good to have one working group responsible for some of the website and another responsible for the other bits - that will get really messy. Obviously, there should be plenty of collaboration, particularly if there's more energy for this in the social media group, as there certainly seem to be - but content creation for the website requires some co-ordination, and by it's nature that would suggest it remains in one group.
But I don't want to pour cold water on this - 'cos i really support the idea of more blogging......

Just needs someone to take on responsibility for making sure stuff gets duplicated.

It doesn't have comments, I don't know if it has trackback (whatever that is), it doesn't have easysharing via social media etc. The first step is definitely to set ourselves up so we can be regularly putting out content, but we need to work out how to get this stuff to be part of it as well. Also, it's kind of buried in the bottom corner of the site. I think this makes sense to some extent as our website is mainly a billboard to get people to come to our events (as opposed to eg. the Plane Stupid website which is essentially a blog) but I wonder if we should have a semi-separate site for the blog, which has its own identity and homepage?
