The Washington International Renewable Energy Conference (WIREC) 2008 
will bring together government, civil society and private business 
leaders to discuss the global development of renewable energy 
technologies with its advantages and disadvantages:

Bioenergy can play a key role in climate change mitigation and securing 
energy supply, if sustainable biomass production and utilisation are 
ensured. One of the main instruments to guarantee sustainability, 
currently under discussion, is the certification of biomass and 
biofuels. The practical implementation of biomass and biofuels 
certification is now tested in an international pilot project supported 
by the German Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection 
(BMELV) since February 2008.
 
This concept and the german pilot project will be presented and 
discussed with international stakeholders at the official WIREC side 
event 84 "International Pilot Certification System of Biomass and 
Biofuel Production". On behalf of the BMELV I cordially invite you to  
this event.
