Nice one Tim

ta for the write up: re just to be clear re film finance I will seek funding via Action Time Vision
applying to Trusts initially and if that doesnt pan out look at the benefit route: basically to attempt
the project to be supported via ATV and not draw on group resources. The film will clearly be a a major
properganda tool once made tho!

Cheers
John

Subject: [Dissent-bristol-info] Resume of last nights meet - please
check!

Hi folks - do these represent a fair resume of what we
agreed last night? Any problems email this list by
10am Wednesday morning, and then I'll put it on the
main list.
cheers........mh

Resume - Info/research group meet 15 Nov. 04

6 people involved in this sub-group of the main
Dissent group met to discuss progress and clarify who
was doing what. So far an 'intro to the G8' has been
produced, and individuals have produced some flyers.

1. Three info factsheets are under production - on
Climate Change (by Mark), sustainability (by Tom), and
Africa/debt (by Tim) - which are the 3 topics which
Blair has said he will highlight during the UK's
hosting of the G8 in 2005. The aim is to expose &
critique the G8 position on these issues, exposing
what they've said they will do (via the G8 and other
institutions), and what they have actually done, along
with the effects of what they've done.

2. A further factsheet is being researched that will
briefly explain the roles of the WTO/WB & IMF & how
they work, and their inter-relation with the G8 (by
Sofia, with input from Paul). Additionally, Paul will
work on exposing how their decisions drill down into
the real world - on our high streets, shopping
centres, cities etc.

3. Ollie has offered to research the issue of PFI
(private finance initiative), which is essentially
privatisation, and explain how that has resulted from
the G8 world view.

4. A film - John is working on a film that will look
at Iraq, climate change & debt, using film footage &
interviews with experts in the fields. It will then
cover alternatives in the here & now that
anti-capitalists can be/are involved in (co-ops,
collectives, international examples etc), with a bit
of a space for some rants. Tom will input to this, as
well as looking to make a very short film based on
'calls to action'. Some of this may cost, and we are
aware of shortage of funds, so no committing the
group to major expenses!

5. AOB
- Tom to be added to the 'info list'.
- the point of the factsheets is to provide basic,
correct, educational info for the group & others who
may be interested. They need to be short, accessible &
succinct ie 2 sides A4.Possibly have a common style?
- aim to have final drafts of factsheets ready for
next sub-group meet on 14 December, 6pm, same place.
- a factsheet giving a list of 'capitalist/G8'
terminology/jargon/acronyms, and easy explanations was
mentioned as an idea.
- give a verbal report on the above at the next
Dissent group meet on 30 November.
- once the factsheets are completed & available,by the
new year, the group could look at producing other
info/propaganda.
- the idea of a dayschool followed by large benefit
gig was suggested for late Feb/early March. The
dayschool could consist of workshops on the above
topics, plus action, circus, legal etc, with
discussions led by speakers from relevant campaigns.
The benefit could embrace a wide variety of music.
John will have an informal chat with The Trinity about
likely prices.
