[Dissent-bristol-info] RE: can we can change date of next meet? Info 4 Action day updates / action

Hi All

Many apologies but Im wondering if we can change the date of the next meeting to Feb 28 or 2nd March or 8th, cos
I have a bit of unavoidable work that evening and cant rearrange. Sorry about this and its partly my fault for not
being at the end of the meeting. If It cant be rearranged I will drop in some notes prior to the meet with AG 606 or
Paul and catch up after with everyone after

Re Developing Nation Debt; I got an email from Justin - he cant do it - he is in Palestine now and goes
from there to Iraq - where he will probably spend rest of the year

AG et al
No Need for row mate - just clarity: and I dont think there is any problem
for any side - not mine: and the work is falling on a few shoulders - quite often
that way: I was just thinking if we use a technique to ensure we have an aggreed decision
at the end of a discussion we can avoid ambiguity ect.

Re your thoughts on the Opening Address - and subject to our next meeting
Is I like the idea of having two local Bristol Dissenters: speaking 1st and 3rd to give
the "Dissent line" and "framework for the Day" and second speaker poss as previous discussion Usma
because she is anti Capitalist, anti G8activist not State Socialist and represents a different cultural perspective.
That way aims of local voice and new and diverse perspectives are met. Asoos well as 2 boys 2 girls for balence.

Re advertsing - concern I have is that we ensure the publicity is translated into Somalian, Urdu, Arabic, and Gurjuanti
to encourage participation from those communities. On the culture of Heroes and Leaders - yes that culture is bullshit
but again concern is rich and poor, bosses and workers and how we abolish poverty and hierarchy through setting up sustainable economic and housing structures - as a priority. Division of labour is possible without hierarchy! Its that leadership is valued in our current crap culture that is wrong- not that it exists.
Having said that perhaps we can look at advetising contributing organisations rather than individual speakers to
avoid the cult of the individual danger as you describe -so it focused on collective not individual contribution.

John

John & all - don't wanna get into a row over this as it's important we
work comfortably together on this event (more involvement & input from
others would of course be helpful in the planning process!). We may have
had different perceptions, but I'm sure they can be sorted!!

My point/concern tho is that the speakers in the first session are
effectively 'keynote' and will set the tone for the day. If you & 606 are
comfortable with her anti-capitalism that's good enough for me.

Still no comeback from schnews-types, and am sorely tempted to tell em we
are sorted. We do tho need to discuss/clarify the 'opening session' -
other speaker(s), facilitator etc. As a suggestion: start with a Bristol
Dissenter on the local group & aims/national aims; follow with
anti-capitalist; end with speaker on outline/practicalities for the day.
Plus a 'chair'. Ideally 2 male/2 female.

Was also thinking about name for the day - how about 'Info-sharing for
Action'? Makes it more horizontal/participatory.

would also suggest not publicising names of speakers beforehand (no
leaders/heros!), tho list em in programme on the day?

plus we need to think about what we wanna achieve from our visit to MX on
Monday.

PS: if anyone else wants to minute/do the resume of next info sub-group
meet they are very, very, very welcome - March 1st, 6 - 8pm(?), Kebele.
