[dissent-tech] Stuff about the website.

Hiya, Just a few comments/suggestions about the web page.

1) To be clear about the www.international.dissent.org.uk (or what ever it is) web page. Someone was going to use this as a page to store translated documents on. It was supposed to be an easy to navigate site and only contain the essential information. The person who took this on hasn't had the time to see it through and, as far as I know, isn't likely too either.

2) I also think that the website could do with a serious aesthetic overhall. Let's try and find someone skilled in web design to have a go at this. A while ago, someone suggested the people who put together the McSpotlight website and the people involved in the J18 website should be approached. Both these sites ended up winning awards for their appearance, content, ease of navigation etc... and they were put together by movement people. I'll try and track them down. For anyone thinking about putting together a website, I think that (regardless of the content of the websites) the following sites are all stylistically different from one another but are each provide good models of an attractive, straightforward and easy to navigate website and the sort of thing we should be aiming towards:

http://www.antifaschistische-aktion.com/
http://www.ukesf.net/en/
http://www.kp-berlin.de/
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/
http://www.stressfaktor.squat.net/

3) Sorry, I still don't have an access code for uploading stuff onto the website. Can someone update the "Donations" sub-section with the new info:

Donate against the G8!

Donations can now be made via the Dissent! webpage!
or visit www.tenpounds.org

This July, the G8 is coming to Gleneagles, Scotland.
The Dissent! Network is mobilising to ensure that the
Summit does not pass by uncontested. Preparations
are well underway and we have found a Convergence
Centre. However, we urgently need funds to pay for the
massive ammount of resources needed to accommodate the
10's of thousands of protesters expected. We estimate
that we
need to raise a further £30,000!!

Please make a generous donation to the Dissent!
Network through our webpage
http://www.dissent.org.uk/donate.html, or by direct
deposit into our bank account:
Account Name: Dissent
Bank Name: The Cooperative Bank
Sort Code: 08-92-99
Account Number 6515 5518

For international bank transfers you will also need
the following codes:
IBAN: GB85 CPBK 0892 9965 1555 18
SWIFT: CPBKGB22

Cheques can also be made out to "The Dissent Network"
and mailed to: "Dissent Funding, Box 8, 245 Gladstone
Street, Forest Fields, Nottingham, NG7 6HX".

Other payment methods are available on our webpage.

That's it for now. See ya!

And nice one to all those who have done an excellent job of maintaining the website up until now. Hope this is considered constructive input rather than criticism. And appologies for making suggestions without being able to be involved in the tech/design stuff directly myself (due to serious lack of skills).
