Yes, this is a very interesting point to discuss. Sorry i have not been
able to make it to any meetings, but days are hot and minds at full
speedy rest :-)
I propose a future workshop on the origins and backgrounds of fascism.
In Spanish papers, the result of the elections in G Britain is regarded
as a triumph of moderation: there is talki about this "polemic
minister, Blunkett" and references to a thinker whom you might already
know and his book about the end of the American dream and the beginning
of the European one.
Apparently, it's a good thing for the socialists in Europe that this
constitution has been rejected by the French and the Dutch, but they
offer other arguments different from those used by Blair and the British
media. to celebrate disagreement.
Gay marriages have been vetoed by the Spanish Senate but approved by law
down at
the Congress or lower chamber, Catholic priests call for processions
against homosexual marriages, and the right wingers promise to sabotage
all peace negotiations undertaken by present centre-socialist government
(run by fox- eyebrowed Zapatero) with Eta.
Why? Cynical reasons: whoever achieves PEACE in the Basque country and
SPain will win the next general elections, so the opposition is not
really interested in achieving peace at the cost of their political power.
This is what you gather from reading a centre journal, mainstream such
as El País.
So these quick fragments of news could be used to throw some light on
the behaviour and standards of Stop the War Coalition?
Gratefully yours,
