forwarding this as i thought it might be of interest, maybe not so much travelling all the way to brazil but having some kind of linkup event?

It's probably a bit early for the autumn hacktionlab i reckon, but some may be interested in organising something.

This is an invitation for organizing and participation in one Techmeet 2010.

Techmeet[1] is an international forum of social techies. We are holding
summits to bring us all together for discussion and collaboration.
Anyone involved with building technology systems to help build a social
change is invited to participate in our event.

In this letter we invite to participate in one Techmeet to be held from
4th to 7th September in Sao Paulo - Brazil and/or to organize a Techmeet
in your town.

The event will be close to LinuxCon Brazil 2010[1], which is not a
techmeet-related event but can be another point in favor to come.

By our part, we have interest in discuss themes like the following:

  1. Backup interchange between tech groups.
  2. Internet laws around the world, how they will affect us,
repression, digital rights, etc.
  3. Free server infrastructure and social movements.
  4. Resource sharing with groups and sustainability.

But this letter is also a request for comments (RFC) about how Techmeet
2010 Sao Paulo can be organized. Then, we would like to know:

  1. If there is interest in participating in person at Techmeet 2010
Sao Paulo.
  2. If there is need to financial aid to come to Techmeet 2010 Sao Paulo.
  3. What themes are of interest for the meeting?
  4. Do you or your group has a suggestion for workshop or debate? If
yes, could you or your group organize and make it?
  5. Do you or your group needs translation to and from portuguese?

We encourage people to send other considerations too :)

Este é um convite para organização e participação de um Techmeet 2010.

Techmeet/Encontro Tech[1] é um forum international de techies
(técnicos/as que trabalham em projetos que visam uma mudança social).
Estamos organizando encontros para que possamos discutir pontos em
conjunto e formas de colaboração. Qualquer um/a que esteja envolvido/a
com o desenvolvimento de sistemas/ferramentas para ajudar a construir
uma mudança social está convidado/a a participar de nossos encontros.

Por esta carta convidamos a participar de um Techmeet entre os dias 4 e
7 de Setembro de 2010 em São Paulo - Brasil e/ou a organizar um Techmeet
em sua localidade.

A data será próxima à LinuxCon Brazil 2010[1], que não é um evento
relacionado ao Techmeet mas que pode ser mais um motivo de
comparecimento para quem mora longe.

De nossa parte, temos interesse em discutir temas como os seguintes:

  1. Backups conjuntos entre grupos técnicos.
  2. Leis de internet mundo a fora, como elas irão nos afetar,
repressão, direitos digitais, etc.
  3. Infra-estrutura de servidores/as livres e movimentos sociais.
  4. Compartilhamento de recursos entre grupos e sustentabilidade.

Mas esta carta também é um pedido por comentários (RFC) sobre como o
Techmeet 2010 São Paulo poderia ser organizado. Assim, gostaríamos de saber:

  1. Se há interesse em participar ao vivo no Techmeet 2010 Sao Paulo.
  2. Se haveria necessidade de ajuda de custos para comparecimento no
     Techmeet 2010 Sao Paulo.
  3. Quais temas seriam de interesse serem abordados em tal encontro.
  4. Você ou seu grupo tem alguma sugestão de oficina ou debate que
     gostaria de participar? Caso afirmativo, teria condições de
ministrá-la?
  5. Você ou seu grupo tem necessidade de tradução de e para o português?
