It's not only size that matters. Some of the graphics in the current
edition are pretty low resolution, and look ropey in the printed
version. I'm no expert, but I've been recommended to use 500 dpi
(pixels/in in Gimp) in the past. Also, using vector graphic formats
might be a good thing as they tend to be easier to scale later on.
