[HacktionLab] BarnCamp 2013

Hi All,

I thought I'd start the BarnCamp ball rolling in good time for next
year. A few weeks back I was down in Bristol at Bristol Wireless and
when put to a show of hands, the majority of the core Bristol Wireless
crew were up for doing one in 2013.

There's a couple of events coming up this autumn that I know some of us
will be at, so I thought it a good idea if we got in early with some
promotional material to hand out at various events.

I propose we do it on the same weekend as usual, which next year will be
the 13th to 17th June, but we could do it the weekend before, the 6th to
10th, if that is more convenient. Any later and we clash with
Glastonbury and other festivals, which I don't think would be optimum.

I know that some of you that have come before have said you'd be up for
helping to organise the next one. I'm up for being the overseer again,
if that's okay with everyone.

I've created a Riseup decider to decide on the weekend, and also get a
feel for who's up for being involved in organising it. If you're up for
BarnCamp 2013, please could you vote on it. If you're up for
organising, but don't want to use the decider, please email me off list.

I've also created a page on the wiki for workshop ideas for the event.

Please add to it as you see fit. I know it's not going to take place
for 10 months, but I reckon it would be good to get a feel for what it
might be about.

Finally, at Bristol Wireless we discussed the possibility of it taking
place in a different location to Highbury Farm. A friend of mine has a
farm near to Swindon (near Wayland Smithy and the Uffington White Horse
to be exact) that has various permanent structures and fields that we
could use. It would be different to Highbury Farm, but it might be
worth trying something different. It would certainly be easier for most
people to get to. This is tentative as I don't know if either party is
up for hosting it at present, but will contact them both in the next
couple of weeks. Also, does anyone else have a venue in mind?

That's all I can think of for now. Am excited about it already!

Cheers,

Mike.
