thing is, penguin's solution requires people to remember it:

One solution for that is crabgrass , see we.riseup.net

Each of the group members will need a user name and password - ouch, a
password to remember (or keep securely)

Some  consider, some don't consider an https secure enough to store
passwords.

I can't think of a solution for that without encryption.

Bluntly I'd say if people can't remember password or get round
encryption then may be better to forget about sharing a password with
them; but then, can you even have a gmail address without a password to
remember??

Perhaps even sms is more secure ...
