I don't see that anything has gone wrong.

We supply an advanced range of internet communication services to a still
growing community. We have successfully done this for a decade, and
continue to do so.
We collaborate with global peers in the development and delivery of
these services.

A key feature for us to have been able to do this is the use of common
of the shelf software ( COTS ), for example Debian, Apache, Mailman,
Wordpress, with limited and minimal bespoke customisation.

This has kept maintenance low, enabled us to benefit from global
improvements in these tools, and allows us to reuse skill sets from
other environments.

They zylum initiative is problematic in various ways. See the previous
communication with with indy.im at aktivix.org in this thread. There are
unanswered questions regarding

- Licensing
- Reuse by others.
- Federation
- Delivery
- Sustainability

Benjamin has recognised that these are issues, and we shall see how they
are resolved.

This article from 2008 is still of value, when we consider how
software and communication tools are developed.

I look forward to investigating these topics, with our peers, to the end of
further developing robust practices that strengthen the ability for individuals and
communities to have secure and unmediated discourse.
