I would be very interested in this. I know someone who's done it using
the parallel port on an old PC instead of a BBB, using this software
https://www.flashrom.org/Flashrom, these schematics
http://rayer.g6.cz/elektro/spipgm.htm and a special clip to make the
connections without de-soldering the chip.

One thing that might be an issue for doing this at BC is that you need
a large, clean table and a big block of time, as you have to do a
complete disassembly and reassembly of the laptop to get at the chip
(for the T400/500 & X200s, at least)
